Collaborations are pretty much a hit or miss. It's pretty much a risk but when the concept and the design build are on point, then the results are epic. Known for their attention to details, Saucony Originals doesn't mess around and instead blesses us with a sneaker that looks and feels the part with a very nice theme. A collaboration with The Good Will Out, they've used the Saucony Shadow 5000 as their platform for this retro-themed treat.
Upon getting the shoe, one is treated to a graphic heavy box that is made to look like a throwback VHS player, we were greeted with a nice paper wrapping laced with various VHS titles that gave us the 90's retro giggles. But the fun doesn't stop there...
Predominantly a black shoe with a white midsole, it's in the details that this shoe comes out strong.
The woven tongue label with the TGWO logo has a rainbow colored ribbing that makes the shoe pop. The debossed TGWO logo gives off that strong VHS tape feel, the transparent eyelets we think are inspired by the spools of the tape.
We are loving the TV test pattern color chart that gives the shoe a sudden pop of color, the classic control symbols on the right side of the shoe gives it a sudden twist to keep it interesting, you see small details like these keep us on our shoephoric toes.
The transparent outsole reminds us of the snowy TV screen before the VHS viewing begins.
Material-wise a champion of a shoe and a staple among Saucony collaborations, the choice of suede and mesh is totally topnotch.
Released in limited quantities locally from The Sneakpeek this one is a total must have if you stumble on one. Highly recommended!
Speaking of collaborations, are you excited about the latest reincarnation of the Nike Air Force 1?
