James Dycoco founder and lead designer of IED Customs began his art in shoe customization professionally in 2014 in Singapore. He has fine tuned his craft with the SBTG workshops ran by custom king and legend Mark Ong AKA SBTG/Sabotage. Now back in the Philippines, James wanted to share his knowledge to those wanting to learn the craft as a profession or even as a hobby. And lucky for us, his first ever workshop has begun.
Last Monday it was a full house at Sneaks & Snacks with shoe enthusiasts eager to learn the craft. The crowd was well diverse with individuals from all walks of life, including media reps, fellow sneaker customizers, MCs and DJs and even a young girl, all excited for the workshop! It was good spirits all throughout with an ambiance buzzing with creative ideas and curiosity to learn more.
The session began with a rundown of all the materials needed for sneaker customization. Great tips were shared, such as brands of paints that are found locally and where to find affordable yet good quality brushes. From then on, it was hands-on.
James gave a full demo on how to prepare different shoe materials like leather and canvas, and the proper brushes to use on them. For the fine details, everyone was given a sample stencil set to use, including one in our shoephoric logo! The Padawans were taught the proper way to use the stencils and how to avoid the dreadful paint bleeds. The whole session was a closely assisted to make sure everyone learned and enjoyed the sneaker custom workshop; they ended their day with a handful of goodies from Clyde and their finished work of art!
