Today, March 26 marks a monumental day in the history of sneakerdom worldwide. Air Max Day commemorates the launch of the original Air Max all the way back from 1987. That's a huge leap from 30 years ago. Arguably the single running shoe to crossover into athletic and pop culture regardless of the trends and whatever hot thing there may be, it's an iconic model.
Created by Tinker Hatfield, the Air Max is still the best embodiment of design immortalized in a shoe. Exposed air bubble units? Unorthodox, but the concept worked!
The most amazing part is that Nike still manages to sell zillions of them yearly! These are shoes that are as old as your grumpy sneaker collecting uncle and yet they are still strong and relevant to this day. Crossing over from the 80's to the 90's, from the OG's down to the collabs each and every one of them will never be replaced in sneaker royalty.
Here are some of our most favorite AM's from our Shoephoric vault... enjoy!
The Air Max 1 Ultra 2.0 “Air Max Day” 908091-100
Nothing like a modern tribute to the shoe that started it all. It doesn't get more OG than this for 2017. Red and white never looked this good on a pair of runners.
Atmos X Nike Air Max 1 “ELEPHANT” / 908366-001
Undoubtedly, one of the most iconic AM's ever. Revered by collectors and street disciples alike, this collaboration with Japanese brand/tastemaker ATMOS is a surefire pair to set off any collection.
Nike Air Max 0 X Jeff Staple (Exclusive Philippine Release)
A special release with Jeff Staple and the Staple Brand, this one pays tribute to the Nike Dunk SB Pigeons and NYC. Packaged in a special wooden box, it can't get anymore special than this pair. Released by The Sneakpeek for the Philippine market.
Nike Air Max 90 London Underground "Roundel / 651321106
Infusing Jacquard technology that fuses two urban icons for an Air Max collection synonymous with the city of London, this one is a neckbreaker.
