There are game changers in every era, with some leaving a ripple effect that flows endlessly from one generation to another. In the footwear scene, Paul Sperry would be one of them. The avid sailor and adventurer who founded the famous boat shoe. He invented the non-slip rubber soles in the late 1930s that paved way to the eponymous brand that we have known up to this day – SPERRY.
The former Naval officer has lived his entire life for the open seas and exploration. But it was an accident that started everything. Late one night in one of his voyage, Paul Sperry slipped and fell overboard while everyone was fast asleep. He was fortunate to get a hold of a rigging to clamber himself up. From this night onward Paul Sperry went on a mission to create shoes that would help ground sailors to their adventurous lifestyle.
After much prototypes, the very first Sperry set sail, the Canvas Circular Vamp Oxford aka CVO. The original boat shoe offered unique textured rubber outsoles to prevent slippage and fast drying canvas uppers. The CVO was an instant success and led to other models including the leather Top-Sider, now known as the Authentic Original. The AO eventually became synonymous with the term “boat shoes”.
For more than 80 years, the iconic CVO has been making waves from all over the world. From modern day explorers to the casual fashion goers, the Sperry Cloud CVO remains a shoe staple for its comfort and timeless design.
The Sperry Cloud CVO is available now in a wide variety of colors for both men and women. For more information check our Sperry PH at www.sperry.com.ph, facebook.com/SperryTopSiderPH and @sperryph on Instagram.
