When Sneaker Passion is Priceless

Shoes make the best gift for the Holiday Season. They're momentous items that grow with character with every given day they are worn. Plus, whether or not you're crazy about shoes, that unboxing feeling you get is absolutely priceless. As an easy way out of the Christmas rush, we zeroed in Diamond Sneaks - one of the most trusted sneaker shops in Manila. They're home to a nice variety of basketball joints, street essentials, luxury finds and even toddler pairs.

We got to chat with Rodney Diamante the man behind Diamond Sneaks, asked how he combines his love for sneakers, the business side of it along with his dad duties.

What or who influenced you in the shoe game? Did you ever think you'll have a sneaker business?

I liked sneakers since I was a kid. I remembered my first sneaker was K-SWISS that my mother bought me when she was working abroad. As time went by, my collection (and appreciation) for kicks grew with different brands, but mostly Jordans.

I really didn't expect that I would eventually have Diamond Sneaks. It all started when I simply wanted to sell my pair. After my first sale through Facebook, I realized why not try it as a business since I have connections. I started out with a few buyers but I didn't expect that one day I'll have my very own store and webstore: www.diamondsneaks.com! With a lot of self motivation and help from the people around me I was able to live out my passion.

Is your entire family into shoes? Do you think Diamond Sneaks would become a family business in the future?

Yes, my wife and kids are into shoes too. Like me, they also collect mostly Jordans. Diamond Sneaks is a partnership between me and my wife. I could not handle this business without her. My wife has been with me on this from the very start.

Since my kids love shoes, hopefully Diamond Sneaks would become a full blown family business. They see me work hard and join different sneaker events. At times, they even help me with some stuff like carrying and unboxing pairs, so I guess as early as now they can see themselves in the shoe industry.

Shoes are like capsules of memories, as a family do you keep pairs for sentimental reasons? Would you care to share?

We keep shoes if a member of the family gave it to us. But of course, even if we value it, we pass it on to our relatives if the shoe doesn't fit anymore.

What are your top favorite kicks in the shop?

Nike Kobe Prelude V

Fragment Design X Air Jordan 1

Air Jordan 6 Doernbecher

Nike Yeezy Red October

Air Jordan 1 Satin BRED

What do you think of couple kicks or matching family kicks?

Couple and matching kicks for me is fun! It's cool when you partner your shoes with your children's shoes. And it's also a trend to have your kids rock a "mini me" outfit. Hahaha!

The gift giving season is here! Can you give us some suggestions for great gift ideas from Diamond Sneaks?

For toddlers and kids:

We recommend the Air Jordan 11 Space Jam. We have preschool, toddler and GS sizing.

For the Ladies

Nomad aka NMD is hot. They come in beautiful colorways, plus its light weight. So you better have at least one pair.

Gifts under P1,000

We recommend the Clyde Shoe Cleaner and Rastaclat. We also have a selection of shirts from our partnered brands that you can choose from.

Rare finds

Rare finds would be adidas Yeezy 350 Beluga and Human Race.

Is there anything that we can look forward to for December?

Yes! We will be having a Christmas Sale soon! Stay tuned!

What does Shoephoric mean to you?

Shoephoric is a friendly community that treats everyone; include store owners like me as family. The team behind it is very approachable and passionate with their work.

Shout outs

Shout outs to my Family for being there from the very start. Diamond Sneaks Family, thank you for being with me and for your hard work! Thank you to my friends whom I consider as family and to my buyers who continue trusting me with their pairs. But most especially, I thank God for giving me strength because without His love and guidance I am nothing. I did and can do all things by having faith to our Lord God.
